This summer will be like no other in Alexandria.
The water taxi is running between Alexandria and Gaylord Resort and Convention Center across the Potomac River. People are taking the 20 minute ride in both directions. From the resort they come to Alexandria to look at the history and visit the shops, restaurants, and galleries. People are riding from Alexandria to look over the massive Gaylord property and the ever-evolving National Harbor complex.
The King Street Trolley is plying its way from the waterfront to the King Street Metro Station. Visitors and residents alike are using it to move around Old Town.
Alexandria will celebrate Mother’s Day with free tours for mothers in all the historic attractions.
The 26th annual Memorial Day Jazz Festival will swing into Fort Ward Park in May 26th.
There will be different band each hour with swing, big band, contemporary, and fusion jazz. Improvise your picnic and bring a blanket.
On Friday evenings Gadsby’s Tavern Museum offers candlelight tours with a costumed guide around Old Town. Tours are at 7 and 10 p.m. Get your taste of the colonial life that was Alexandria.
Second Thursday of each month will see the Torpedo Factory Art Center and many King Street Art Galleries staying open until 9:00 p.m. with special events and refreshments.
On June 14 and 15 the Alexandria Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold it 27th annual Waterfront Festival with music, rides, historic ship tours, food, and much more.
